Renuka Swamy murder case: Karnataka Police makes two more arrests

MUMBAI: On Tuesday, June 11, popular Kannada actor Darshan, popularly known as "Rowdy of Sandalwood," was taken into custody in relation to a murder case. Media sources state that Darshan was detained in Myrusu in relation to the death of Renuka Swamy, who was accused of sending actress Pavithra Gowda offensive texts.

The Karnataka Police made two additional arrests on Friday in connection with the murder of a man in which prominent Kannada actor Darshan and his co-star and partner Pavithra Gowda are the primary suspects, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to 16, with another accused still at large.

Darshan, Pavithra Gowda, and 11 others were detained earlier this week on allegations of murdering Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old Chitradurga resident.

The investigation revealed that Renukaswamy was a major fan of Darshan and had sent nasty messages to Pavithra Gowda on social media. The victim was allegedly kidnapped, brought to Bengaluru, imprisoned in a shed, and mercilessly tortured until death.

The sixth accused, Jagadish nicknamed Jagga, and the seventh, Anu aka Anukumar, were apprehended on Friday in Chitradurga by a team led by DSP Dinakar and a special team from the Kamakshipalya police station probing the case.

The suspects, who allegedly kidnapped Renukaswamy from Chitradurga, are being taken to Bengaluru for questioning.

The eighth accused, Ravi aka Ravishankar, who drove Renukaswamy from Chitradurga to Bengaluru in a Toyota Etios, surrendered to police on Thursday night.

Thoogudeepa Srinivas, a seasoned Kannada actor, is the father of Darshan. He debuted as an actor in Majestic in 2001. He has appeared in numerous films, including Tarak, Nagarahavu, Inspector Vikram, Chakravarthy, Garadi, Kranti, Roberrt, and Kaatera.
