Bharathiraj had visited Babu several times in the hospital and even provided him with financial assistance. For the 1990 film Manasara Vaalthungalaen, Babu was required to do a high jump. While the film’s director suggested that he use a body double, Babu insisted on doing the jump himself. While performing this stunt, Babu unfortunately had a bad fall which led to a major back injury. This injury impacted his film career badly and he was bedridden for 30 years because of it.
Filmmaker Bharathiraja directed Babu in En Uyir Thozhan. The film did not do as well as expected but brought Babu a lot of recognition with the song Aei Raasaathi Poo Soodi Vaa Vaa Vaa in the film.
