MUMBAI:Movie Shaakuntalam has been creating buzz all over internet ever since the trailer was out. The movie, which has Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Dev Mohan in the leading role was considered as one of the much awaited movies, not only because of the actress and her presence in it, but also because of the unique concept which the trailer promised.
The movie is directed by Gunasekhar and today, the movie has finally hit the big screen. Here's the complete review of the movie.
Talking about the premise, it is based on mythology which is seen and heard in many adaptations. This movie is about Shakuntala, played by Samantha and her love story with King Dushyant, played by Dev Mohan. We have seen various adaptations and read many versions of books, which all talk about the story of love and trust. How that love and trust is put to test is what is shown in the movie.
The screenplay of the movie is very poor and the writing is not up to the mark, which made the scene dull. But, the direction given by Gunasekhar is good.
Talk about performances, it is an out and out Samatha Ruth Prabhu show. Unfortunately, she is the only character which will be grabbing the audience's attention. The actress was brilliant in the movie. On the other hand, the leading man Dev Mohan, who was in playing the character of King Dushyant was decent. Other cast like Aditi Balan, Mohan Babu and Malhotra Shivam were decent on their part. But, the limelight of the entire movie was given to the daughter of Allu Arjun, Allu Arha, who played Bharat in the movie.
Talking about the positive points of the movie, it has to be actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Also, on the other hand, the cinematography of the movie is beautiful and to some extent, the direction was amazing. Special mention to the location which were covered, as they were a treat to watch. The BGM of the movie definitely enhance your movie viewing experience.

Talking about the negative points of the movie, it has to be the VFX and the CGI, which is very poor. There were many portions in the movie which looked cartoonish. On the other hand, the screenplay of the movie is poor. There are many dull moments in the movie. Also, the writing should have been strong, which could have definitely lift the scenes. Also, at a point, the dialogue and dubbing is not proper, because of which the movie looks unintentionally funny. The songs in the movie look forceful, which does not suit the situation.
Having said that, Shaakuntalam is a victim of bad writing and very poor screenplay. The takeaway of the movie can be the leading actress. If you are a Samantha Ruth Prabhu fan, this one is for you.
Team TellyChakkar goes with 2/5 for Shaakuntalam.
