MUMBAI: The South cinema industry has been ruling the hearts of audiences and certainly dominating the box office with their back-to-back films. Having delivered massive and compelling cinema, they are not only creating films on a grand scale but also leaving an impact with their captivating stories. From strengthening regional content to creating box office spectacles, they are ahead in every aspect. Moreover, they have also been proving their dominance at the National Awards for three consecutive years.
When we look at the South industry's success spree at the National Awards, it is truly remarkable. In 2020, Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru won five National Awards at the 68th National Film Awards, including Best Feature Film, Best Actor for Suriya, Best Actress for Aparna Balamurali, Best Screenplay for Shalini Usha Nair and Sudha Kongara, and Best Background Score for G. V. Prakash Kumar. In 2021, at the 69th National Film Awards, Pushpa: The Rise won two awards – Best Actor for Allu Arjun and Best Music Direction for Devi Sri Prasad. Then, at the 70th National Film Awards for 2022, the industry achieved a magnificent win as Rishab Shetty won the National Award for Best Actor, Kantara was honored with the National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, and KGF: Chapter 2 received awards for Best Action Direction and Best Kannada Film.
Apart from these successes, the South industry is set to deliver more blockbusters like Kanguva, Pushpa 2 : The Rule, Kantara: Chapter 1.
