MUMBAI :When Prithviraj Sukumaran, one of the most attractive actors in Malayali films, decided to marry Supriya Menon on April 25, 2011, he broke the hearts of millions of people by ending his bachelorhood. However, did you know how this handsome actor met and fell in love with a journalist?
For an extended period, Supriya Menon excelled as an NDTV journalist before her editor tasked her with covering Malayali movies, given that she was born into the community. Except for some of the industry's mainstays, like Mamoothy and Mohanlal, she knew nothing at all about Malayali cinema. Seeing that this was an impossible undertaking, she contacted one of her coworkers for assistance. He gave her the number of a relatively new and young actor from Malayali movie at the time. This individual was none other than Prithviraj. Supriya recalled her initial encounter with Prithviraj during a task session at the TiE Kerala Women Conference in Kochi.
She also mentioned, “But a fellow journalist came to my rescue. She handed me the number of a young actor and told me to contact him saying that he would probably be able to help me. That one phone call changed the course of my life. You see, my friend had given an introduction to my future husband, Prithviraj Sukumaran.”
Well, everything started to significantly shift after that one phone call. Prithviraj and Supriya were formerly close friends, but suddenly Supriya saw him as more than just a nice guy. Since Supriya was located in Mumbai, she eventually took on the role of tour guide for Prithviraj, who had always wanted to travel to the city and explore its streets. Prithviraj talked about the next step he took to Mumbai in an interview. He described how he saw the city through Supriya, his best friend, and how this eventually led to their romance.
As he stated, “Though Supriya is a Malayali, she has spent the most of her life in Mumbai. She's a Mumbai girl. In fact, I saw the real Mumbai through Supriya's eyes. But it was Supriya who showed me the sides of Mumbai I had never seen. I wanted to see all the places described in the novel Shantaram like Haji Ali and the Leopold Cafe. Supriya was a friend. I asked her to take me to all these places. Thus, I was in Mumbai and Supriya took over my life for the next few weeks."
Their profound connection strengthened the foundation of their relationship, which was established by their frequent trips to Mumbai. Mumbai became meaningful to them both because it was the place where they ultimately fell in love.
Finally, on April 25, 2011, Supriya and Prithviraj tied the knot following a four-year relationship. The next day, they threw a reception party to celebrate their marriage. However, Supriya's brilliant career was on the line, thus taking the step toward marriage was easier said than done. Even though she was a phenomenally successful journalist in Mumbai, she relocated to Kerala after marrying Prithviraj. Moreover, it was a whole new experience marrying a successful movie actor. She didn't give it much attention, though, because he was more important to her than the star and preferred Prithvi's company, the man who walked with her in Mumbai's streets.
Although Supriya was first nervous about making such a significant career decision so soon after her wedding, her beloved husband Prithviraj has always felt responsible to his ladylove for giving up something so important in her life. Prithviraj expressed his growing pride and respect for his wife in an interview, saying, “Supriya gave up her job and city to live with me in Kerala. I owe my wife a lot. I don't think I would be what I am today without her support."
The pair were married in 2011 and became parents three years later. Their adorable daughter Alankrita Menon Prithviraj was born in 2014. Their darling baby daughter is clearly the joy of their lives, and her devoted parents never fail to show her so much love.
In the present day, the trio is happy with their pleasant life and the company of each other. Not only is Supriya a successful professional who works as a journalist for the BBC, but Prithviraj is also a very skilled actor in Mollywood.
