To become a creative one should have the knowledge of direction: Tanvesh Jain, Creative Head

Tanvesh Jain, Creative Head

Tanvesh Jain, the creative head of the Colors show Udann is a marketing graduate, who wanted to make it into the glamour world. After his initial struggle, he finally established himself as an independent creative head for many shows.

Here in a chit-chat with Tellychakkar.com, Tanvesh shares a lot on his eventful journey in the industry.

Tell us something about yourself…

My hometown is in Indore and I have completed my MBA from Pune University. After completing MBA I got placed in Balaji Telefilms as the associate creative head through campus placement. Later on, I continued to work in the creative department for many production houses.

Why did you shift to creative field from marketing background?

I was very much attracted to the showbiz world and used to fancy a lot about this sector. So, even after doing marketing I decided to use my knowledge in this sector and make a career in this field.

What are the shows you have done so far?

Initially I joined Balaji Telefilms in 2008, soon after completing my MBA degree. Then from 2012, with the show Kairi, I started working independently as a creative head. Soon after that I did Sanskaar and Savdhan India. And currently I am working as the creative head in Udann and I am also handling Saregama India’s shows.

What according to you is the responsibility of a creative head?

In very simple words a creative head is the person, who is responsible for converting the words written by the writer into visual treatment. A creative head should have sound knowledge in every field starting from casting to editing to screenplay.

What will be your advice to the young professionals in this field?

Anyone planning to join this field should at least try their hands first on direction. Being from a different professional background I have faced this difficulty. Unless one possesses knowledge of direction, it becomes difficult for that person to understand the job of a creative properly.

Do you think that television is gradually changing?

Television is changing drastically, and the audience have become smart now. They are appreciating new content. Though I will admit that somehow saas-bahu dramas are ruling the TRP charts, new and innovative initiatives are being appreciated.

Have you faced any difficult situation in this profession?

Initially many used to bully me for my educational background,  that in order to become a creative head no one needs to have an MBA degree and I used to be depressed thinking about that. But with time I have become more patient. I was jobless for a continuous stretch of eight months, and suddenly received the offer of doing Kairi. So, this is also an issue which can bother an individual in this profession.

What is your long term goal?

I want to open up my own production house and someday want to get into producing films. Currently under the banner of Mahaveer Media I am all set to produce a television show in the south industry.
