A Creative has to always be agile and active: Fatima Rangera

A creative of a show is considered to be the 'Captain of the ship'. The authority that is responsible for a show's success or loss, most of the time goes unnoticed. To find out more about the duties of a creative, we at Tellychakkar.com got in touch with creative director of Rajshri Productions, Fatima Rangera. Here, in our ‘Behind the Lens’ section, she talks about her journey, views and beliefs. Tell us about how you landed up being a creative? Well, it was never in my mind to be the creative of a show, but I always had a flair for writing since childhood. Having written a couple of shows, I landed up becoming a creative by default. Even into creativity, I was more inclined in writing. Could you share your journey in this industry? When I came to Mumbai for the first time to complete my journalism course, I landed up into Balaji Telefilms. Having worked in Balaji for a couple of years, I found interesting to work there and have learned a lot from them. Even today if someone asks me, I would admit that whatever I have learnt as a writer and creative, I have done so from Balaji Telefilms. After a while, I met Kavita ji through a friend of mine. Though I approached her for writing, but she said that I was destined to do something different. I think it was all written in my fate that I will be one day be a part of Rajshri Productions. This, in short, is my journey to being a creative on Rajshri’s show. Tell us how important is a Creative to make a particular show successful? I think there cannot be a single person who makes a show hit; it has to be a team work. I will say that a company always consists of three types of people; they are good, very good and amazing people. Along with actors, every person sitting in an office is equally responsible for the show to become a success. For an actor to come out with a good performance, he needs a good script that comes from the creative. In short, I would say that acting and creative both go neck and neck. But, I would say that the team effort is very important because if the show does well, it will obviously go to the credit of the team and also so if it does not do well. What qualities make one a perfect creative? Apart from writing, the creative must love the show and the people around. A good creative must have a clear vision about what is being done to the show, because the creative is a medium between the channel, writers, the actors and the production house’s decision. Hence, a creative must possess the capability to carry forward the idea through the actors to the audience. Along with, the creative must be clear about what is happening around and what must be done. Apart from this, a creative should have the courage to speak out about the track that will not work. Taking a right decision at the right time is the most important quality of a creative. Your say on back-to-back shoots… Here, I would say one thing; there is no guarantee in small screen. A well-written track can be scrapped due to rains as it is difficult to shoot outdoors then. To work matters out, the team should regularly get into discussions and thrash things out, most important thing here is the presence of mind. Like, if a Creative forgets to add up a line in a particular dialogue, the show might miss a whole drama for the next few weeks. Hence, a creative should always be agile and active in each and every issue going around. Finally, how is it working with Rajshri Productions? I am quite lucky that after Balaji, I got a chance to work for Rajshri. What do I say about Rajshri? The name says it all. I think our office is a small nice environment. Kavita ji is such a good person, who is available not only to discuss about the show but also generally. She is also friendly to me and is creatively very much involved in the show which helps!
