Today (10 August 2012), on the auspicious occasion of <strong>Janmashtami</strong>, our nation celebrates to mark the birth of Lord Sri Krishna. The festival is not only popular in India but also across the world. Janmashtami is popularly known in Mumbai and Pune as Dahi Handi. Devotees of Lord Krishna celebrate this festival with lot of joy and zeal.

Janmashtami is popularly known in Mumbai and Pune as Dahi Handi. Devotees of Lord Krishna celebrate this festival with lot of joy and zeal. The ritual of Dahi Handi is carried out with much fanfare and joy. Human pyramid is formed to break the Handi (Earthen Pot) balanced from top with the help of a rope. The exciting process involves spilling of water by the viewers to prevent the boys from breaking the pot. In Mumbai alone, it is believed that more than a lakh people will participate in Dahi Handi celebrations.
