Basking into the glory of completing seven successful years as a leading GEC on Indian television, Colors is celebrating its seventh birthday today.
Perhaps a true believer of the phrase ‘variety is the spice of life’, the makers have always presented the audience some of the best shows on the national television with diversity in its contents. Shows that have been churned out on Colors range from those having social issues like Balika Vadhu, Na Aana Is Des Laado to family dramas like Sasural Simar Ka, Uttran to reality shows like Bigg Boss, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa to comedy shows like Comedy Nights with Kapil and some more.
Here on the seventh birthday of the channel, here on Tellychakkar.com we present you with the channel’s seven iconic shows.
Have a look…
Balika Vadhu (Sphereorigins)- One of the first of its kind, Balika Vadhu dealt with the evil social practice of child marriage, which is still prevalent in India. The daily captured the journey of a young child bride Anandi and her journey of discovering herself from a tender bride to a strong woman. Later on the show focused on Anandi’s daughter Nimboli, who suffered the same fate as her mother and ended up becoming a victim of the same social evil.
Uttaran (FilmFarm Productions)- Uttaran, an enchanting tale of friendship, between Tapasya and Ichha, who belonged from different socio economic backgrounds. Their friendship went through a roller coaster ride of emotions when the companionship took a different turn with love, jealousy, enmity, competition, and finally with their reunion. Post a leap Uttaran focused on Tapasya and Ichha’s daughters Mukta and Meethi, who also had a similar relationship like their mothers’.
Bigg Boss (Endemol)- A desi version of the international reality series Big Brother, this one grabbed the attention of the masses perfectly. In-house politics, newly brewing romance, abusive languages, physical violence, even some cozy moments made the show the big daddy of all reality series. Locked up in a luxurious house, it is indeed a challenge for the celebrity participants to maintain their public image as well as to remain in the game.
Comedy Nights with Kapil (SOL & K9)- This rib tickling comedy chat show is perhaps the best gift from the channel to the viewers. Not only the face of the show Kapil Sharma, but other members of Kapil’s on screen, dysfunctional family are equally humourous. Their perfect comic timing leaves the audience to ask for some more. And the celeb guest appearances on the show are simply cherries on top.
Na Aana Is Des Laado (Shakuntalam Telefilms)- Another daily from Colors’ kitty which dealt with a serious social issue of female foeticide and infanticide. Na Aana Is Des Laado narrated the story of a battle between two strong women Sia and Ammaji. Voicing a protest against the evil social custom the makers rightly depicted the picture of rural India and showed the importance of girl child in our society.
India's Got Talent (Big Synergy & Fremantle Media)- The biggest platform for the common man to showcase their skills, IGT follows the pattern of Got Talent Global. IGT not only has brought some of the best talents to the limelight but also presented few of the best judges like Karan Johar, Sonali Bendre, Malaika Arora Khan and Kirron Kher.
Sasural Simar Ka (Rashmi Sharma Telefilms)- The long running soap opera Sasural Simar Ka initially started with the story of a young girl Simar and her journey in her in-law’s place. Later on her sister, Roli, got married in the same household and since then the show focused on the bond between two sisters and how they fought with evils to protect their family.
Apart from these iconic shows, Colors has been presenting many popular shows like Meri Aashqui Tum Se Hi, Madhubala, Beintehaa and many others and hope that it will continue to present some more.
