From being the typical chocolate boy to doing diversifying roles in his career, Naman Shaw has indeed showcased his talent in a huge way. Now, the man plays a challenging lead role, that of a man who carries the baggage of being charged for molestation in the past in Sony PAL’s Khushiyon Ki Gullakh – Aashi.
In a hearty conversation with Tellychakkar.com, Naman speaks about his new show, his aspirations and much more..
Excerpts:
You had been on a hiatus from TV after Kairee. What prompted this break?
I was busy trying to set up my own business, so was travelling a lot to China.
What were you exactly looking at, for a comeback on TV?
I was just looking for a good concept, and a character that is little different from my previous roles. I was consciously avoiding saas-bahu sagas.
How is it to play the role of Vishesh, in Khushiyon Ki Gullakh Aashi?
The character of Vishesh has lots of shades. He was a happy guy once; because of few incidents he has gone against the society and is a loner now. After meeting Aashi, he will be a completely changed man who would have more confidence. So it is fun playing all these shades.
Sony PAL’s GRPs have not been encouraging. What motivates you as an actor to carry on with your job?
It is a new channel, so we need to give it sometime. There are so many options for viewers these days. Having said this, in the span of three weeks, the GRP has shown improvement. So we should be positive and hope for the best, and do our job honestly.
How is it working with the team of Aashi?
Oh, it is a great team. We have so much fun on the sets. We have a mix of fresh and talented actors like Rohitashvji and Nishigandha Mam.
Have you made friends on the sets of the show?
Yes, we have a gang on set and gel well. It is sometimes difficult for the production to get us out of the room if we are sitting together (smiles). Being the youngest, Bantu is always the target of all pranks.
How is your off-screen rapport with Hally Shah?
I share a great rapport with Hally. She is young in age, but is a superb performer. She hardly gets time to chill with us, as she is required in every scene.
Vishesh the protagonist in the show is not a simple character, and has a dark past. How is it to portray such a character that is not full of life?
The character is a little complicated, because of so many things that has happened to him in the past. But I am enjoying it, as he is totally opposite to me. While shooting for Vishesh’s character, I get a feeling sometimes of being a guy with a split personality (laughs).
Did you have to work on anything to get into the skin of the character?
Not really, I just leave it to the director. I am a director’s actor and my writers have shaped up the character really well.
What are your plans for Diwali?
I have lots of plans. If I get an off, I am going to fly to my hometown Kolkata for a day and spend time with my family. If I get only a half day’s off, I will be with my friends and play cards. If I don’t get an off, I will be shooting the whole day.
How is it to work with Miloni Movies?
It has been a great experience. Naren and Susheeljee, my producers treat us like a family. We don’t share a producer and actor relationship. They are like my elder brothers.
As an actor, what are the kinds of roles you will want to experiment on?
I would like to do a very desi role, a grey shade from UP or Bihar as I have never done this.
Are you open to doing mythological or costume dramas?
Yes, I am open for it as long as the character is strong and the makers are confident.
Would you mind getting locked up in the Bigg Boss house?
I would love to be locked in there. It is one of my favourite shows.
Any reality show you would want to participate in?
The Amazing Race.
