Lucknow lad Piyush Kapoor’s elimination on X Factor can very well be rated as the most dhamakedar eliminations in recent times. While he was ousted from the show by his mentor Sonu Niigaam, Sanjay Leela Bhansali voiced his opinion against the decision. In an interview with TellyChakkar, Piyush talks about the eliminations and his future plans. Excerpts from the interview…
On elimination…
I was in the bottom two last week also, but then I managed to get safe. But this week I didn’t perform well and I got eliminated. Though I felt bad because my mentor Sonu Niigaam voted against me, but I hold no grudges as the judgement was absolutely fair. I didn’t sing well as compared to Amit and he deserved to move ahead in the show. However, I must add that I was glad and honoured when Sanjay sir fought for me. I was touched by the gesture and I want to thank him for standing by me.
On X Factor…
X Factor is a show with a difference. It is a show that is looking for a performer who can entertain the masses. I have enjoyed my stint in the show as I got to learn a lot. Sonu Niigaam was a great mentor and to have him as a guide was truly inspiring. I feel that X Factor has given me a great exposure which will help me to grow in life.
On the musical journey…
Well, the journey has been tough but a fruitful one. I hail from Lucknow and I started taking singing seriously at the age of 15 or 16. I had a band in Lucknow and I used to perform a lot at college fests. I did audition for many other reality shows but my first break came with X Factor. I never thought that I will survive for so long in the show. I want to thank everyone for loving me so much.
On inspiration…
I draw inspiration from my dad. He has struggled a lot in life and I thank him for giving me a beautiful life. He has taught me how to battle through odds and emerge as a winner.
On reality shows and judges…
Reality shows give you the necessary exposure after which you can follow your own ambitious journey. People recognise you, they love you and you get to meet so many influential people from the industry. Reality shows make life easier for you. Furthermore, people think why to have judges on the show when everything is being decided by the viewers. But judges are actually the backbones of these shows. Their comments are not only valuable but also decisive. I remember that every time Sonu sir scolded me, people voted less for me. So I think reality shows can’t be successful without good judges.
On future plans…
Right now I am happy with whatever I have achieved in life. I have become a chota mota celebrity now. People know me and they want to know about me. I am on Google now, so I am quite famous (laughs). After X Factor, I will continue my struggle to become one of the most successful singers in the country.
