The dashing light eyed Sumit Vats is back on small screen with a bang. The ever diverse theater actor who had donned three different avatars in Zee TV’s Hitler Didi will be sharing screen space with the ace actor Himani Shivpuri in the comedy serial by Red Dot Productions, Ajab Gajab - Ghar Jamai on BIG MAGIC.
Himani will be seen as the nani saas and Sumit will be seen as the youngest ghar jamai, whose main aim in life will be to irritate his nani saas.
We spoke to Sumit during the launch of the show and here are excerpts from it.
Tell us about the show?
The show as the name suggests, there is a home where ladies of the house don’t go to in-laws after marriage but the other way round, their husbands are brought in to the sasural. This has been going on for the past few generations where women rule the family and the husbands are kept under the thumb in fear of women especially nani. It is a very unique concept executed in a complete comical manner. There is so much to laugh.
What is your role in it?
There are four son-in-laws in the Shaktishaali family and I am the youngest son-in-law of the house and the show starts with my wedding. Other son-in-laws including nani’s husband came to the house either under threats or promises while I came in on my own. I choose this household specifically to change the whole family set up. I have the support of nana and other jamaais even though they are scared of nani. Also my character is someone who doesn’t like doing work. He wants to rest all the time. So this household is perfect. I will be creating a lot of chaos here and cause headache for nani. Let’s see.
How is it working with Himani Shivpuri?
It is a great experience. I have been seeing her since my childhood, such a great actress. She has a vast experience in both films and TV and has the perfect timings. She corrects us if something is not right and gives us tips. I am learning a lot from her, we all are. I hope to work with her in the future also.
Is this your first comic stint on television?
Yes, this is going to be my full time comedy show even though I have done some comedy roles in theater. I hope the audience likes it. We all are trying our level best to make the audience laugh, obviously it will be based on our performance and the script. But the entire team is working hard to ensure that people enjoy to the fullest for half an hour.
Any message for fans?
I want to thank all for the love and support would want them to watch my new show and make it a success.
