She's a mystifying comibination of appealing aura and awesome attitude. Achint Kaur handles it all with aplomb - an acting career, a blooming business and the forbidding role of a mother to a teenager! This 35 year old lives for today and doesn't think about the future. Chikita Kukreja caught up with her for a tete a tete to check what makes her tick.

How do you manage to stay so slim and never seem to put on an ounce?
(laughs) I work out a lot! Even if don't exercise, often because I don't have the time, I don't really put on any weight. I love eating. Chinese is my favourite and I recently I have realised that I am very fond of Indian food too! But as such I don't do much to keep myself fit.
I do frequent a small gym, Power House, that's very close to my house, I go there four days a week and have a personal trainer.
How did you land up starting your own business?
I am not addicted to acting. I realised that I would not be able to run after roles, because they will come to me only when someone finds me suitable and they like me. So I decided to take up something which interests me, and I know a lot about skin and make-up. A very close friend of mine wanted to expand his business and offered me a partnership, and I accepted it. I am doing a pretty good job; I have a 2,700 square feet place which includes a salon and a spa therapy center.
How did you happen to take up Piya Ka Ghar, the dehati look doesn't suit your image, does it?
This character is much like me. This is all about a woman from a UP basti, a fearlessly confident and independent woman. This character comes in to rescue Rimjhim. Her name is Amba, and this role was interesting because no one has ever done anything of this sort on TV. I am even doing stunts in this, which excite me, since I have always been an athlete. This is the first project to excite me after Kittie Party...
Do you relate in any way to the roles you've done for Balaji Telefilms?
It's just the confidence level that is shown in the Balaji characters that I actually relate to. I don't think I can be that bad or that good with anybody.
How close are you to your Kittie Party team?
I gel with men more than with women. Kittie Party was my first experience and it turned out to be awesome. We are in regular touch with each other. I am not much of a party freak but yes, we share everything in life with each other. It's a great feeling to have such a strong bond.
Is anything like Kittie Party coming up again in the future?
I really wish something of this sort would happen again, something that wouldn't feature any "husbands". I would leave the busiest of my schedules for this. All of us have such a brilliant chemistry between us that even if we don't rehearse, we just covered up on the shoot.
We very recently heard that you happened to hurt your leg, how is it now?
It wasn't my leg, it was my back that got hurt, and I guess people got things wrong. Five years ago, when I was shooting for my first soap,Banegi Apni Baat I accidentally hurt my back when I was told to run down the stairs, slip and fall in the ditch and I actually did fall!
It was later discovered that there was a crack in my backbone and it really ached. It had almost healed when again, I slipped in my bathroom and fell and hurt my back at the same point, this took me a year and a half to recope. Very recently, I did fall but it was nothing much, I limped for three days and was then back to normal.
How do you deal with being the mother of a teenage son, along with your busy work schedule?
Sometimes, it is really tough. I don't know what to do but somehow I manage things. But I don't pity myself, all of us have problems to face but you need to have the courage to get on with life.
Life is going cool and smooth. Yes, I am stressed because my days are so brilliantly packed. But I guess if things were not like this all these days, I would have become a crabby old woman. And I prefer it this way.
How has your relation with Mohan developed with years?
We have been together for almost six and half years, and it has grown stronger and stronger with time. We do not and do not allow each other to interfere in each other's professional life. We discuss everything, agree and disagree but do not tell each other what to do. Suggestions are always welcome, of course.
Will Mohan's taking over as the non fiction department at Balaji Telefilms affect your work with the production house in any way?
No, Mohan is handling the non-fiction department, and he has nothing to do with the roles I get. When working, we are just professionals.
