Images are made and broken by the media: Barun Sobti

Barun Sobti

MUMBAI: Popular television actor Barun Sobti, who rose to fame with Star Plus’ Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, has ventured into movies and web series.

Barun featured in ALTBalaji’s The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family, which was very well received by the audiences. He will now be seen in upcoming web-series Asura, which is a psychological thriller.

We had a brief chat with Barun on his upcoming web-series. He said, ‘I heard the script and was very impressed with it. The content is at par with Hollywood thriller genre standards. I am an avid audience of thriller-based shows, and every now and then, I become a critic for most such shows, pointing out the loopholes. But with Asura, I felt everything was just up to the mark and it is an amazingly written project.’

Talking about his successful stints in web-series, Barun said, ‘The story and scripts of web-series are very unique, and I love to take up different roles that are challenging.’

We asked him about being able to break his image as a quintessential romantic hero, to which he said, ‘Images are made by media. It has never been my criteria while selecting any shows. I believe in performing the character with all of my capacity. The stereotypes that media and audiences make about me have nothing to do with my choice of work.’

We asked the dapper actor about his return to television, to which he said, ‘Television requires a long-term commitment, whereas web-series and movies are smaller commitments and are scattered. For now, I am committed to web shows.’
