Krystle D’souza is a surreal mix of calmness and energy.
The Ek Hazaaron Mein fame actress was last seen in Ekk Nayi Pehchaan. Well, Krsytle is back, and how! The gorgeous actress is making her comeback on the small screen as a lead on Zee TV’s Brahmarakshas (Balaji Telefilms).
Tellychakkar met Krystle at the launch of the show. She looked pretty like always in a yellow outfit. With a twinkle in her eyes and a beautiful smile to flaunt, Krystle greeted us and spoke about Brahmarakshas and more.
Excerpts:
What kept you away from TV for so long?
After shooting continuously, you don’t have a life of your own so this break was much needed. Every girl wants to play positive protagonists, but I think my fans have trust in me and I also have faith that I can do something different. I was waiting for an out of the box project. With supernatural picking up on TV, I wanted to explore it. This is the right show for that. It’s more fun shooting in the jungles and havelis than in kitchens and bedrooms.
Why not play glamorous roles?
There are saas bahu and supernatural shows going on TV, hence, there is nothing to do with glamorous roles. There are glamorous antagonists, but I can’t think of any protagonist. Krystle in real life is glamorous, so I keep my personal space different from the professional one. All said and done, I love playing Indian roles and I want to give audiences what they like.
Are you scared of ghosts?
I am petrified of possibly all creatures. These days, I am scared of human beings also… as creatures can still be handled. We shoot in a jungle, so I am scared of snakes popping out of nowhere. Phew!
Are you superstitious?
Not to that extent. I do follow little things, like not cutting nails post sunset although I still don’t understand the reason. Even though I don’t believe in any of it, I don’t want to take the risk.
The show is said to be loosely based on Jaani Dushman. Have you watched it?
I have watched both Jaani Dushman movies. Around a year ago, my parents were watching it so even I happened to see it. But our show has not got much to do with that film. This show is from the Vedas. When a Brahmin dies and if the stars are aliened in a certain way and his purpose on this earth is not fulfilled, he turns into a soul aka Brahmarakshas. Either it can be just a wandering soul or it can take the form of a body or an animal. So this is what we are trying to explain in our own way. Apart from thrills, viewers can expect lot of romance and comedy too.
Have you ever had any supernatural experience?
Thankfully, I haven’t and I don’t wish to either as I am big darpok (coward). But I believe that if you don’t trouble them, they don’t mess with you.
You are good friends with Ekta. Is that the reason you chose her show as your comeback project?
Not really, as we never discuss about work when we meet. I truly wanted to do something different and somewhere during our conversation, it might have gone to her that I don’t wish to do daily soaps. So I assume for the character of Raina, she must have thought about me.
Your co-star Ahem is an introvert. How do you both gel?
He is not at all an introvert. His character is way bubblier than mine. I actually call him rakshak. We are wrecking havoc on the sets.
Are you open to doing mytho and historical shows?
I am not really keen. It’s very taxing to shoot such scenes. I can’t wear clothes, which I am not comfortable in and the dialect is also very different.
How comfortable are you doing intimate and kissing scenes onscreen?
Just like the way I am not comfortable wearing revealing clothes, I am not okay kissing onscreen.
Why you haven’t participated in a reality show yet?
Well, a dance reality show is fine with me, rest I prefer watching!
When do you plan to settle down?
This is not the right time to settle down. My parents are also not putting pressure on me. They are proud of me and my growth.
Lastly, in three words, explain what viewers can expect from Brahmarakshas.
Suspense, thriller and Krystle (smiles).
