"I fear investing in shares" Amita Chandekar

Cashin' In sits down with TV celebs to know well they handle their financial matters, and tracks their spending patterns. Like all good Indian kids, Amita Chandekar gave her first salary to her mom. Well, she hasn't changed much today as she still lets her father handle all her finances. We cashed in on the lanky lass to know how careful she is in money matters. How important is money for you? It's a necessity. It can provide you with lots of luxuries… the more you have the better! Are you an impulsive buyer? I used to be but now I'm much better. Well, you can say that I've grown up. What are the investments you have made? I've invested in few mutual funds and we have a house in Pune which we use during our vacations. What is your most expensive purchase? My car which is a Honda Civic. It is worth a little more than a million. Do you feel financially secure? Yes, I do but there are times when you get upset because certain things don't go according to your plan. Who handles your expenses? It's always been my dad. What was your first salary? What you did with it? I used to give tuitions to the students of class seven to nine. I got paid Rs.500 and gave the entire amount to my mom who bought me a nice outfit with that money. How much money do you carry every day? I'm very careless. Often, I end up losing my purse. Usually, I carry Rs 1000-2000 every day. Do you invest in the stock market? It's only mutual funds for me. I'm scared of investing in shares. Any advice to investors? I'm not the right person to offer an advice like this. But all I can say is that those who invest heavily into shares need to play it safe.
