Gandii Baat 3 Review: A lacklustre shadow of its first installment

Gandii Baat 3

MUMBAI: Ekta Kapoor’s announcement of erotic thriller Gandii Baat 1 on her digital medium ALTBalaji had people excited much before its launch, and when it finally premiered, people couldn’t stop talking about the oomph it brought to the medium.

The stories were bold, rustic, and drew reference from the rural mindset. After stories such as Threesome, Tharki Buddha, and Preeto Rani, the audience wanted more, and soon, Ekta launched the second season of Gandii Baat. The second season had a line up of episodic stories such as Bai-Sexual; Jaduai Mahal; and Love, Sex, Betrayal.

ALTBalaji’s Gandii Baat Season 3 premiered on 27th July with 4 episodes. The 50-minute episodes showcase stories around love, lust, and acceptance and feature actors Lalit Bisht, Rushali Arora, Bhawsheel Sahni, Rishikesh Ingley, Shiny Dixit, Sheeva Rana, and Pallavi Mukherjee, amongst others.

Here is our review!

The stories

The first story, Harpreet weds Harpreet, where a boy named Joginder falls head over heels in love with Harpreet, shows that love goes beyond the barricades of gender stereotyoes. Another story, Rajkumar, revolves around superstitious beliefs, while the third, titled Honeymoon on Wheels, showcases a woman, Laxmi, on the journey to find her true love Neeraj.

And culminating the series is Sonam Chad Gayi, wherein the characters Satyaprakash and Sumitra face dire consequences because of their love for each other.

The stories narrated do seem a bit far-fetched. A honeymoon bus with ‘sexual guidelines’, cross-dressing without setting a proper context, and random sex scenes make the episodes seem far from reality.

Acting

The acting of the entire cast gets a thumbs up! They act with conviction and take you along with them on their emotional journey. A special mention to Lalit Bist, Sheeva Rana, and Shiny Dixit, who nailed it with their acting chops and made the episode unpredictable and edgy.

Direction

The series is directed by Sachin Mohite, and we expected some sultry narratives on relationships. The narratives focusing on the sexual taboos faced by women in villages could have been showcased in a classier manner.

Cinematography

Considering the subject of the series, the team could have done a better job at establishing intimate and erotic shots.

Verdict

In our opinion, Gandii Baat Season 3 delivers what it promises, but it falls short of the luster and magic created by the previous seasons by a little bit.
