When a soldier is taken prisoner, the punishment is borne by his entire family. Because their dilemma, their guilt, their helplessness, and lack of closure make the ordeal even more chilling for the family back home.
Well, this seems to be the premise of Nikhil Advani’s telly debut P.O.W. - Bandi Yuddh Ke that traces the journey of two prisoners of war (Purab Kohli and Satyadeep Mishra), who return home after seventeen years of being in Pakistan.
While not most of us know the aftermath of the Kargil War of 1999, this Star Plus series vows to take us through the events in great detail.
The trailer begins with quick, dramatic scenes, setting the plot right at the beginning. There is no time asted in establishing the story and the camera just jumps into the happenings. We absolutely love a show that is straight forward since its launch.
There are various uncertainties at the fore as the released prisoners, who held commanding positions in the Army and Airforce, are questioned about their credibility and stance. It’s been a torrid decade and half for their wives (Amrita Puri and Sandhya Mridul, respectively) too. While one found love in another man during her husband’s absence, the other had to take up the responsibilities of her presumed-dead husband while he was in prison.
Their collection fight to set things straight and bring freedom to their trapped lives form the crux of the thrilling show.
Apart from its obvious resemblance to American hit series Homeland, it’s said to be based on Israeli TV series Hatufim (which, in turn, inspired Homeland). The thrill factor aside, what makes the trailer gripping is the powerful acting by the four leads, who convey the complex emotions rather beautifully.
The finite series will air on Star Plus in October. Watch the trailer here…
