IPL: Ajinkya Rahane becomes the captain of KKR; here’s what happened

MUMBAI: India won the Champions League 2025 and rose victorious after an amazing league. India defeated New Zealand not once but twice. After Virat Kohli ducked at zero, fans were shocked and scared of losing the match but it wasn’t the end. As the match came to an end with Jadeja hitting a four, fans took a sigh of relief and jumped for a celebration. The entire nation celebrated this massive victory and so did the team.

Now, cricket fans worldwide are waiting for the IPL season to arrive on 22nd March. The first match will be KKR vs RCB. While Venkatesh Iyer and Sunil Narine were included in the top choices for being the captain of KKR, it was Ajinkya Rahane who got selected as the new captain of the team.

The selection of the captain was driven by the need to have someone with more ‘maturity and experience’. Well, it was actually said by KKR CEO Venky Mysore...AND FYI, the all-rounder was acquired for INR 23.75 crore during the IPL auction and has been appointed as the team’s vice-captain.

“IPL is quite an intense tournament. Clearly, we think very well of Venkatesh Iyer, but at the same time it [captaincy] is taxing on a youngster. We have seen lots of people having lots of challenges with it [handling captaincy] as they go forward. It takes a very steady hand, takes a lot of maturity and experience which we felt Ajinkya brings with him,” Mysore told ESPNcricinfo.

“He has played 185 IPL games, 200 international games across formats. He has led India, led Mumbai in domestic, he’s led in IPL. And he has played from season one of IPL. All that is massive. There should be no surprise at all [on appointing Rahane as captain],” he added.
