Abhijeet to not renew contract with Sony

Abhijeet Sawant has been making headlines these days. His film debut, Asian Idol, his recent marriage all made big news. He is once again in the news. It has been learned that Abhijeet who is currently under an exclusive contract with Sony does not want wish to continue with it. He had recently received an offer from Star Plus for their show <em> Rang De India</em> which he had to refuse because of his contract. The show had singers like Shaan, Abhaas, Prajakta Shukre, Rahul Vaidya, Vinit all participating.

It has been learned that Abhijeet who is currently under an exclusive contract with Sony does not want wish to continue with it. He had recently received an offer from Star Plus for their show Rang De India which he had to refuse because of his contract. The show had singers like Shaan, Abhaas, Prajakta Shukre, Rahul Vaidya, Vinit all participating. “I was called for the show but could not attend as I’m still under contract with Sony. I wish to end the contract as I am missing some good opportunities,” says Abhijeet. After winning the Indian Idol trophy Abhijeet had signed a one year contract. “The channel extended the contract with me for yet another year because of my increasing popularity. The contract will now get over in March. I think its time for me to think beyond money,” he explains. Did the channel restrict you to perform for Rang De India? “Actually the deciding person from the channel was not available for permission. Even when I appeared in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Sony objected. This time I did not want to create any legal problems for myself,” he informs. Abhijeet who is busy with his film Lottery says, “Till now there has been no restriction on the film,” he laughs
