Anjan Srivastav goes down memory lane

Who can forget the middle-class, simple and good-hearted Mr Waghle from the epic show, Waghle Ki Duniya. Yes, the character was enacted wonderfully by actor Anjan Srivastav. Currently, he is seen as the father-in-law in Sunshine Productions’ Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha (Colors). “Before Waghle Ki Duniya, I did shows like Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi and Nukkad. After that, one day my friend Kundan Shah called me and asked me to join him in a meeting with the famous cartoonist RK Laxman. I was initially reluctant as I was not sure why I should meet a cartoonist. But my friend convinced me and together we went to meet the famous man behind Mr Waghle,” shares Anjan with Tellychakkar.com. Srivastav further adds that after meeting Laxman he gave him a few lines and asked him to recite. “After that Mr Laxman sketched something (pertaining to the dialogue lines) and showed me. I was very impressed and also requested him for one more chance to show my talent. In the initial meeting, with Laxman and Shah and later with Ravi Ojha (producer of Sasural Genda Phool), I toned down my acting. Later on, I got a call from Ojha who has directed episodes of Waghle Ki Duniya.” So why did the show become such a big hit? “There was no pressure for an episode bank and telecast deadlines. What mattered was the script. The writer used to take his own time to create an episode which was the backbone of any show.” Srivastav considers himself lucky and blessed that he has been responsible for the success of the show and people still watch it online.
