MUMBAI : A recent Vipassana journey was taken by actor Rohit Bakshi, who is well-known for his roles in the television series Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahiin To Hoga, Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki, Chittod Ki Rani Padmini Ka Johur, and Anupamaa.

Rohit said, “My experience was wonderful as always. Though, it was a short one this time, usually I go for ten days. So I have done the ten-day course five times. This time, due to time constraints, I thought let's do a quick three-day course to refresh. I do practice at home as well, but still, the environment there is different. Everyone is serious about it. Usually, these Vipassana centers are located in some secluded places.”

He further added, “This time, I went to Belapur, a place called Dhamma Vipula. So all the centers have their own names. For instance, the one in Borivali is called Dhamma Pattana. Each place has a different name, like the one in Nasik, Dhamma Nāsikā. So, this time it was Dhamma Vipula.”

Further speaking about it Rohit said, “I learned about Vipassana through my dad. He never told me to take a course or anything, but I used to see him doing Vipassana daily. Vipassana is a form of Meditation where they teach you the technique. He never pushed me into it, thinking I would do it when the time was right. He used to sit for 5-6 hours at a stretch. My dad was very advanced, with a lot of practice. He had attended two courses in his younger days but didn’t go after that. One fine day in 2016, I felt a calling, so I filled out the form without mentioning it to my dad. When I finally told him, he was genuinely happy. He said, "Yes, go and experience it." On the tenth day, you get your mobile back and can make calls. Until then, it's complete silence for nine days. You can’t talk to anyone, no gestures, no hand movements, nothing. Complete non-interaction.”

He added, “After ten days, I called my dad first and said, "Now I understand you much better." The balance in his life made sense to me. Emotions were in control, and achieving such balance is very difficult nowadays. Once I did the course, I understood the meaning of balance in Vipassana. Since that day, I’ve been going whenever I get the chance. I try to do the ten-day course at least once a year. If I can’t, I at least manage a shorter course. For me, Vipassana is a place to recharge and purify the mind, allowing you to return with a renewed sense of balance.”

He concluded saying, “If I feel someone is really in need, I recommend it. If someone is struggling with work or personal life, I suggest they take out ten days and go for it. Otherwise, I don't generally push it on people. I feel good about it and I want others to benefit too. I will definitely guide them and help them if they need help in filling out forms. Maybe not to the extent of explaining what happens there, because if I tell them everything, it won't be exciting. They should go and learn for themselves, especially for a new person. It could be very difficult for you and very easy for someone else. It depends on the person, their life stage, and what they want to achieve.”
