Ashiesh Roy, who recently began shooting for Eagle Films’ new show Jeanie Aur Juju for SAB TV, was seen seeking Maa Durga’s blessings at several Durga Puja pandals across Mumbai, with his co star Jhumma Mitra.
Shared Ashiesh, “Jhumma, my co-star, and I had only one day off from the shooting and when Jhumma suggested that ‘we seek the blessings of Maa Durga for our new show,’ I readily agreed.”
Opined Jhumma that Durga Puja is the universal celebration of positivity for Bengalis all over the world and “since both Ashiesh and me are beginning on a new show during this auspicious festival, we decided to seek Maa’s blessings.”
So…dressed in traditional Bengali outfits, the two actors ganged up with their closest Bengali friends and headed first to the famous Mukherji Bari pandal at Tulip Star where they performed the traditional Maha Ashtami puja. “I kept a fast especially for this holy prayer,” said Ashiesh. “Both of us prayed for the success of our new show Jeannie Aur Juju. Since it’s our festival, we needed this holiday after having shot for eight episodes till now, “Jhumma added.
Then, the two proceeded to savour the traditional bhog. “The sounds of Rabindra Sangeet and the odour from the kitchen transported me straight to my childhood days in Kolkata.” declared a visibly enraptured Ashiesh. “I had a completely spiritual experience and I can’t but that thank my friend Jhumma enough for it.”
The two friends happily spent the rest of the day visiting various Durga Puja pandals at D.N. Nagar, Versova and Malad finally ending the day at singer Abhijeet’s Lokhandwala Complex puja pandal, where they witnessed the famous Bengali devotional drum dance (dhunuchi dance). “Ah, the sight of countless dhaks being played in tandem with devotees dancing while holding burning essence bowls (dhunuchis) was mind blowing. I was ready to join in, but my friends didn’t allow me to,” Ashiesh concluded.
