MUMBAI: In a podcast that was aired on February 11, Elvish Yadav made offensive comments on Chum Darang. His racist remarks, mocking Chum Darang’s name and ethnicity, put him in trouble immediately. In the podcast, Elvish reportedly said, “Karan Veer must have definitely had COVID because who would like Chum, bro? Who has such bad taste! And even Chum's name itself is vulgar. Her name is Chum, and she worked in Gangubai Kathiawadi.”

Well, he could not be let go off so easily for this. Chum quickly reacted to this on Instagram saying, “Disrespecting someone's identity and name is not 'fun.' Mocking someone's achievements is not 'banter' It's time we drew the line between humour and hate. What's even more disappointing is that this wasn't just about my ethnicity, my hard work and a film backed by a visionary like Sanjay Leela Bhansali were also disrespected,”

As this turned into a controversy with Elvish facing more backlash, the Arunachal Pradesh State Women's Commission (APSCW) strongly condemned Elvish Yadav's remarks, labeling them as offensive and inappropriate. In response, the commission formally wrote to the National Commission for Women (NCW), and urged them to take action against the YouTuber. They emphasized that his comments were not only insulting to Chum Darang but also showed deep disrespect toward women from Northeast India in general.

Now as per the latest reports, Elvish Yadav was summoned at the National Commission for Women (NCW) office, Delhi, on Tuesday, 22nd April, where he issued an apology for his racist remarks and offensive comments. After coming out of the office, he apologized publicly for his comments. Take a look at the video below:

In his public apology, he said, “Jaise jaise hum life mein grow karte hai, aage badhte hain toh maturity aati hai aur joh Chum wala tha usme bohot saarein log aise hai jinko mera intentions samajh nahi aaya.”

He further added, “I agree that if people felt hurt by my words, then I must have said something wrong. That's why, in this matter, I went inside and apologised. I don't have anything personal against anyone, nor do I hold any grudges. I've submitted my apology.”
