A good actress can execute diverse roles with élan. The pretty and petite Divyaalakshmi is currently executing two roles as different as chalk and cheese on Indian television. Kavi (Aamir Dalvi’s wife) Bulbul in Hum Ne Li Hai...Shapath (Fireworks Productions) and Maharani Sajja Bai Solankni in Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap (Contiloe Entertainment Private Ltd) have little in common. But Divyaalakshmi can convincingly execute both the roles.
Is it tough to manage both shows? “As Hum Ne Li Hai... Shapath is a bi-weekly it isn’t tough to manage it along with Maharana Pratap. Both the characters are cute and dear to my heart. Bulbul is a bindass girl who has a sweet nok jhok with her husband. Sajja Bai is sweet, loving and innocent. Of late she is getting assertive and asking for her rights.”
Which of the two roles do her fans like better? “I am flooded with messages on social networking sites that they like both the characters. They like my costumes in both the shows but would like to see me in Western wear now.”
Bulbul would wear salwar suits before marriage. Now she wears sarees, why do most Indian women on TV have to switch to sarees after their character gets married? The actress replied, “I have no idea whatsoever. Many urban women watch the serials too and they continue to wear jeans after marriage. So why should not the same be shown on Indian television? I also find it strange when I see female characters going to bed wearing heavy jewellery and silk sarees.”
