Dill Mill Gayye, the medical soap opera produced by Cinevistaas for Star One, has had an unbelievable fan following and ran successfully for two seasons. The enthusiasm amongst the viewers to see a season 3 has been enormous, and they have been continuously sending fan mails, petitions etc to various channels and the production house.
So what are the chances of getting DMG back on screen? Well, nobody can deny the amount of popularity the cult show has garnered. However, the main question that has to be raised is – does the genre of Dill Mill Gayye suit any of the major GECs present programming strategy?
Well, going by the type of shows that are on air in the popular GECs, the answer to this question has to be ‘no’. But wait, janta janardhan have it in them to get what they want. So will the fans succeed in convincing a channel to add into their kitty a popular property like Dill Mill Gayye? Only time will tell.
Palkhi Malhotra, Project Head, Cinevistaas expresses her thought on the probable return of DMG. “Who will not be happy if Dill Mill Gayye gets back? But the main question is, ‘When and where can it come’? DMG suited the genre of shows that Star One made. We could easily tell that Star One meant Dill Mill Gayye, and Dill Mill Gayye meant Star One. Today, DMG is such a huge property that any channel can approach us to get it back on screen. But there have been no takers till now, and this in itself explains that this youth show does not fit into the genre of any channel. The only channel that welcomes youth shows is Channel V. We as makers of DMG would be glad to work on it again.”
For Shilpa Anand, the show means a lot, and she just cannot get over the sweet memories attached to the show. “The dance sequences were real fun to shoot, and I simply cannot forget the red locker scene (smiles). As for the fans’ request, it’s very sweet of them to request for Dill Mill Gayye 3. But all depends on a channel and the production house to get it back. As artists we would love to work for the show again. We had fun being part of it and enjoyed it thoroughly till it existed.”
Mohnish Behl, who played Dr. Shashank in the show, feels that even if the role was not a principal one, he has got all the name and fame in television due to Sanjeevani and Dill Mill Gayye. “I would personally want to be part of the DMG family again. But I am not sure whether it is a viable proposition for any channel. My role of Dr Shashank clearly states that if a character is etched well, it will be a hit and it does not matter if the character is not one of the principal roles. I would be part of DMG with my eyes closed. The main plus point of the show was the amazing working environment we had. We were a huge family, and I keep in touch with Karan Singh Grover, Jennifer Winget, Sunaina Gulia and others even today.’
You never know, the relentless pursuits of the fans to get their loved show back might yield result one day. For now, all we can say is that the entire cast of DMG is with you, dear viewers!!
