MUMBAI: As a primary source of entertainment for most middle-upper middle class Indian households, television shows and serials had garnered enormous mass attention back in the 2000s.
With limited technological gadgets available compared to the current scenario, individuals and families used to stay glued to their television sets to watch their favourite programs in their respective time slots. Shows like Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kusum, Kumkum, etc. used to rule both the audience's hearts and the TRP charts for showcasing slices of family life.
Owing to their mass popularity, these TV actors were readily visible on the small-screen for portraying pivotal roles and iconic characters in the leading shows back then. Check them out below:
1. Ronit Roy

Telly actor Ronit Bose Roy was a prominent figure in most television serials back then as he could be seen portraying many small roles in different TV serials of different genres like Kammal, Ssshhhh...Koi Hai, etc. However, he gained massive fame post-replacing actor Amar Upadhyay for playing the iconic lead-character of 'Mihir' in Ekta Kapoor's blockbuster TV show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. During this phase, he landed himself another major role in another Ekta Kapoor's serial Kasautii Zindagi Kay, wherein he portrayed the role of Mr. Bajaj. However, Mihir is remembered most extensively till date for portraying couple-goals with his on-screen co-character 'Tulsi' (which was played by Smriti Irani). Later, Ronit bagged other shows like Adaalat, movies and even virtual shows on OTT platforms.
2. Cezanne Khan

Pakistan-based Indian telly actor Cezzane Khan was not very much available everywhere on the small-screen. However, he is greatly noted till date for portraying the iconic male-lead's character named 'Anurag Basu' in Ekta Kapoor's one of the most loved '00s show Kasautii Zindagi Kay. Audience simply loved his on-screen pairing with co-star Shweta Tiwari (who played 'Prerna Sharma'). The story's lead cast and plot helped garner it's massive attention. Apart from this, Cezanne has starred in many other Hindi serials after taking a long break post-Kasautii.....
3. Rajeev Khandelwal

Rajeev debuted before the small-screen with Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat (2002), wherein he played the negative role. However, his first breakthrough role was for playing the male lead 'Sujan' in Star Plus' Kahiin To Hoga (2003-2005). Post-this, he acted in many other television shows like Time Bomb 9/11, Sun Leyna, Left Right Left, Reporters, etc. Apart from this, he has also starred in many Bollywood movies and played the lead role therein.
4. Amar Upadhyay

Indian telly actor and model Amar debuted on the small-screen with Jaya Bachchan's show Dekh Bhai Dekh. However, he got his major breakthrough role by playing the lead-character of OG 'Mihir Virani' in Ekta Kapoor's Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, opposite co-star Smriti Irani, who played the role of his wife 'Tulsi Virani'. This duo's on-screen pairing and chemistry won the audiences' hearts right from the very beginning of the show. However, he was later replaced post-showcasing his on-screen character's death in 2001. Such was the impact that protest marches on the streets and public's ardent appeal to bring him back to life were underway at that time. He later starred in many other TV shows and even participated in Bigg Boss 5.
5. Shabir Ahluwalia

Shabir was a very popular telly face back in that decade. He debuted with the show Hip Hip Hurray, but gained recognition for his characters in television shows like Kahiin to Hoga, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat, Kahi To Milenge, Kkavyanjali, Kasamh Se, Kasautii Zindagii Kay and many more. However, his breakthrough performance was noted in 2007's Kayamath, wherein his character took-over that of Jai Bhhanushali's as the male-lead.
6. Hiten Tejwani

Tejwani debuted in Ekta Kapoor's serial Ghar Ek Mandir, which was aired on Sony TV. Then after, he starred in Kapoor's other soaps like Kabhii Sautan Kabhii Sahelii on Metro Gold, Kaahin Kissii Roz on Star Plus and Kutumb on Sony TV with Gauri Pradhan. He re-appeared again with Pradhan in the second season of Kutumb and in her popular Star Plus show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, for which the duo gained massive fame both on nd off-screen. He portrayed the role of 'Karan Virani' therein while Gauri played 'Nandini'. In 2009, Hiten-Gauri also made a short cameo in the Star Plus' show Kumkum - Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan. In 2006, Tejwani along with his wife Gauri participated in Nach Baliye 2 and returned to host it's season 4 in 2008. He also played the role of 'Anurag Basu' in Kasautii Zindagii Kay by replacing Cezanne Khan. His achievements are uncountable!
7. Yash Tonk

Telly actor Yash Tonk is also a very popular small-screen face for portraying various roles for innumerable Hindi shows and serials. He debuted with Kuch Toh Hai Tere Mere Darmiyaan and featured in both big and small roles for many serials, most of which were under the Balaji Telefilms banner. However, his most striking role was observed in Ekta Kapoor's Kaahin Kissii Roz, wherein he played the male lead's role named 'Kuljeet' and sustained it throughout the show's length.
