COLORS’ celebs open up about their Maha Shivratri rituals & beliefs

MUMBAI: Maha Shivaratri, one of the most revered Hindu festivals, is celebrated annually in honor of Lord Shiva.
This auspicious occasion marks the divine wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is also believed to be the night when Shiva performs his cosmic dance, the Tandava.
Devotees across the world observe this sacred festival through deep devotion, fasting, prayer, and meditation.
Many stay awake throughout the night, chanting Lord Shiva’s sacred Panchakshara mantra, “Om Namah Shivaya.”

Mishkat Verma, portraying Om in COLORS’ ‘Ram Bhavan’ shares, “Mahadev’s philosophy is one that I resonate with—detachment from the past, faith in the present, and complete surrender to the journey ahead. These beliefs have shaped me as a person, offering me peace and clarity in life and my craft. What’s even more special is that my character, Om, in Ram Bhavan embodies the same ideals—perseverance, righteousness, and an unshakable faith in destiny—values that are at the very heart of Mahadev’s teachings. I will be marking the Maha Shivratri by visiting a Shiv temple and meditating for some time. This sacred night reminds us that patience, trust, and belief in divine timing can carry us through even the toughest storms. May we all find the wisdom to let go and accept reality as it is with Lord Shiva’s blessings. Har Har Mahadev!”

Amar Upadhyay, portraying the role of Ganga Prasad in COLORS’ ‘Doree’ says, “Maha Shivratri has always been a day of introspection and gratitude for me. Lord Shiva’s teachings of balance, transformation, and fearlessness have been my guiding light. His message that we all hold the power to overcome challenges has shaped my perspective on personal and professional fronts. Every year, I make sure to venerate Mahadev with prayers and meditation, immersing myself in his divine presence. This year, I feel incredibly blessed to be celebrating Maha Shivratri with my wonderful Doree family, seeking his grace together. I pray that we all absorb his strength and let it flow through every aspect of our lives. Om Namah Shivaya!”

Deepika Singh playing the role of Mangal in COLORS’ Mangal Lakshmi’ shares, ”Maha Shivratri is a day of deep spiritual connection. For me, Lord Shiv is the ultimate yogi, the supreme energy whose damru marks the rhythm of the universe. In Odissi, we revere him as Nataraj—the cosmic dancer, both the destructor and creator. If time allows I try offer my devotion in a the form of a dance to a Shiv bhajan. While it's not possible for me to follow all the rituals of the sacred day as I shoot for my show, I honour Lord Shiv in my own way, making time for traditions that are close to my heart. I offer milk to Shivji either before or after pack-up, chant the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra, and meditate. We arrange Dhatura and bel patra as offerings to Mahadev.”
