Divyaalakshmi aims to popularize 'belly dancing'

Check the pictures above The pretty looking Divyaalakshmi simply loves to ‘dance’!! Her passion started when she enrolled herself into basic classical dancing as a kid. The talented girl later learnt the contemporary dance form from Terence Lewis’ academy. But the dedication she has for ‘belly dancing’ has no boundaries. Says Divyaa, “I learnt belly dancing two years back, but since I was in a group as a dancer, I had to quit. The reason was that I had bagged Shapath then, and wanted to concentrate on it.” However, the girl went ahead and took private tuitions to master the art. And today, Divyaa stands at a point where she wants to take belly dancing very seriously, and turn it into her profession. “In India, belly dancing is not looked upon well. But for me, it is one of the most elegant and beautiful art forms where the one who masters the ‘Shimmies’ (chest and butt movement) will be the ace. I want to take it up professionally. I look forward to showcasing my dance skill at events, on TV shows and even in movies,” quips the girl. Ask her about her guru in this dance form, and she has the answer on the tip of her tongue. “Rachel Brice, the contemporary performer in Tribal Fusion Style Belly Dance from Portland is who I look up to. I will want to take the art form to a big way in India. As of now, my dance teacher is Dipika Vijay,” says Divyaa who is currently seen in Sony Entertainment Television’s Maharana Pratap and Life OK’s Hum Ne Li Hai…Shapath. Divyaa, we hope you succeed in your mission!!
