Shobhana Desai Productions’ Ek mahal ho sapno ka was all set to return with a revived season on Sony Entertainment television on which the original show aired. The show boasted of gifted actors like Rita Bhaduri, Vaishali Thakkar, Apara Mehta, Manoj Joshi and Deven Bhojani and was to come back with a fresh look with new faces on the same channel has apparently been scrapped. Informs an industry insider, “The deal was sealed with the channel but things have undergone a major change after Sony’s fiction head Sanjay Upadhyay quit and Ajay Bhalwankar (ex-Zee) joined Sony. The deal has now gone kaput and the show has been scrapped. This development has come as a huge blow to the production house as they had finalised the cast of the show which mainly had artists from Gujarati and Marathi theatre. It was apparently for the prime time slot. The news of the project being shelved was intimated to the production house just when the shooting was to commence. Currently, SDP is in talks with the channel on yet another concept and one is hoping that this time things materialise.” We called Apara Mehta for confirmation and she said, “I too came to know that SDP was remaking Ek mahal ho sapno ka but I am clueless about its current status. It would have been always difficult to bring in new faces for a show which had done extremely well in its first season. During our season, the show had some established and popular faces which also worked in favour both for the actors and the show.” We sent a text message to both producer Shobhana Desai and Sony Entertainment Television’s Marketing Head Danish Khan, but they both didn’t revert.
