MUMBAI: Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi was a serial that changed the face of Indian television. It began in the year 2000 and became a cult show. People still remember the series and the characters.
Tulsi and Mihir had become a part of people’s families. Remember the time when Mihir was killed in the serial? There was an outrage among people, and there were protests outside Balaji Telefilms to get the character back.
This was the first serial in the era of 'saas-bahu' serials. It gave to rise to many more such shows, thus changing the game.
Actors like Smriti Irani, Ronit Roy, Amar Upadhyay, Hiten Tejwani, Karisma Tanna, Gauri Pradhan, and Akashdeep Saigal became household names.
Today, the serial completes 20 years, and producer Ekta shared a post sharing how the journey had begun.

She shared a video of her at her office from the day the serial went on air and said that she remembers pitching the story to the channel. She told them that they could make this serial in a budget of 1 lakh only, but they called her back and offered her more help and money.
She further said that it had never happened before...that a channel had helped to make a serial, but they believed in her conviction and in the story, and they went on to create history.
The ace producer also shared the promo song and the video of the serial, and captioned it saying that this was a show that changed her life. She remembered that during the Gujarat earthquake, people put on the TV and saw the show to feel better and happy. That was the most humble moment of her life.
She also thanked the entire cast, crew, and team for making a show that created history and changed the face of television.
There is no doubt that this serial is one of the best. No wonder it ran for almost 9 years.
Congratulations to the team of Balaji and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.
