What kind of changes have you seen in your character Iqbal?
In the initial days, my character didn't have much screen space in the show. I used to appear in very few scenes. But the makers gradually liked my performance and they started writing scenes where I was involved in the Mahila Police Thana. Now my character Iqbal helps them to solve cases. Then they also wrote the character of Dimple bhabhi for me which was again a huge hit and the makers keep introducing her from time to time. Apart from doing comedy, Iqbal's character is used during missions solved by Mahila Police Thana. I am really enjoying it.
You mentioned that your character Iqbal has helped the Mahila Police Thana to solve cases. Do you feel that your character might turn into a police officer?
No, I don't think that it will happen. It all depends on the writers. Iqbal will never be seen as a police officer in the show. If Iqbal turns into a police officer, the essence of his character will be lost. Apart from the police team, there are three prime characters Billu, Badnaam, and Iqbal. If one of them goes missing, it will be difficult to fill that space.
Would you like to portray a police officer if given a choice?
I would definitely love to play a police officer. But right now, I am enjoying playing Iqbal's character. If I turn into a police officer, my character will have limitations. Here I can explore a lot of shades.
How has life changed as an actor after you started working in Maddam Sir?
My life has changed a lot in the past two years ever since I am doing Maddam Sir. I am very much comfortable with my work. The casting director who cast me was keen on me playing Iqbal's character. He saw that I have a lot of potential and that I can pull off the role well. I am glad that I did this role. Now people recognize me for Iqbal's character. Their point of view towards me has completely changed.
Well said, Ashwani!
