MUMMBAI: Sony TV's most-watched and loved show Punyashlok Ahilya Bai has managed to create a special place in everyone's heart ever since the beginning.
Gaurav Amlani and Aetashaa Sansgiri have been roped in to play the lead roles of Khande Rao and Ahilya Bai respectively in the show.
The actor has been lauded for his performance as Khande Rao.
Gaurav's character in the show has seen lots of growth and the viewers are loving how his character has shaped up over the months.
TellyChakkar got in touch with Gaurav who spoke at length about his character in Ahilya Bai and much more.
How has the journey been so far playing Khande Rao's character in Ahilya Bai?
The journey so far has been ecstatic. The first two months just flew because it happened all of a sudden. I auditioned for the role and within 10 days, I shot for the promo. It was literally a dream for me. I was so involved and consumed with the show that I genuinely didn't realize that the first two months passed by. Even storywise and me performing as Khande Rao had a lot of similarities. The uncanny thing to me was that it was 7 years to me in Mumbai. Even today, I feel that there are so many dialogues that are from my real life. The kind of love I was receiving from everyone was beautiful. I think this is always going to be the best because the firsts are always special. Nothing can take their place. With TV, one lives that character on daily basis.
How much your camaraderie with Aetashaa has evolved over time?
The first time we shot for a promo together, we just hit it off. Since the very first shot we gave together, there was no awkwardness. Even she was very new to the show. She made me feel very comfortable. She was herself getting herself comfortable. Aetashaa is very sweet in that way. We are really good friends. The best part is, there is something when we perform as Khande Rao and Ahilya, I realized through the viewers' eyes that people are liking our on-screen chemistry. We were doing it very organically both on and off-screen. Through the scenes, we were also learning about Gaurav and Aetashaa. She is really fun to work with and is very transparent as a person.
How has life changed post bagging Ahilya Bai?
Becoming a household name is a dream for any actor. It is a very beautiful feeling if you are known through your character. I never used to pay that kind of importance to a character as such. As an actor, you perform every character the way it is supposed to be, be it in any medium. Somewhere, you have to realize that all those actors who are universally loved, have to first click with the audience to some character first. I want to give credit to the character as it comes with so much aura and heroism. I am lucky enough to play this character. People are loving Khande Rao played by Gaurav Amlani. That will have to come when people will love me playing any role.
In the last few months, I have been out of town twice and people were approaching me as Khande Rao. It is a very surreal feeling for any actor. I was really happy and very touched when people recognized me for my character. The love and respect that I receive are also because of my character.
Gaurav has previously appeared in projects like Pyaar tune Kiya Kiya, Your Honour, and Husband Material, among others.
He has also been a theatre artist apart from proving his mettle in acting with TV and web shows.
