MUMBAI: So rarely does it happen that actors are able to portray characters in a grey shade but look at their characters in the most optimistic way. Shrashti Maheshwari has been part of TV shows like Thapki Pyaar Ki, Adaalat, Divya Drishti and Raabta. She is currently playing a role with grey shades in Pandya Store and recently made a grand entry in Bal Shiv As Ajamukhi, the sister of Tarkasur. She is one such actor who has brought dimensions into her portrayal.
Shrashti has played characters in all kinds of shades and this is not the first time she is delving into the world of mythological series. She has already been a part of 'Vighnaharta Ganesh and tried her hand at fantasy fiction with shows like 'Divya Drishti' and 'Brahamrakhshas.'
Tellychakkar Spoke to Shrashti about the fear of being Typecast, if she would do Naagin and on doing grey characters:
1. This is not the first time you are playing a mythological character, have you ever had the fear of being Typecast only to this genre?
I don't have fear as such and I have never been typecasted to a genre but I have been typecasted to play the negative character. I have faced that problem because this medium has its stereotypes for a certain category having sharp features mean that you are immediately removed from the consideration of playing a positive role or a complex role, you are only put in the box to play negative characters. I believe physical features shouldn't dictate your potential or the character you play.
2. Speaking about fantasy and supernatural shows, there is one show that has paved the way for iconic characters, would you ever consider being a part of Naagin?
I love the show, I think what Ekta Mam has achieved with Naagin, is absolutely unbelievable and I have such immense respect for her. I got the opportunity to work with her once and I will be so overjoyed to be a part of Naagin because you see the characters are layered. They are not laid out to be black and white, as an actor you get to play around with the character because the show is so unpredictable.
3. You've played a lot of different characters over time and they have experienced their own shifts, how has your experience been with that?
My character on 'Bal Shiv' is so unpredictable, she's innocently mischievous. She is very selfless and everything she does is for her brother. Whereas my character on 'Pandya store' is grey, it is very situational, she reacts to the circumstances because you can restrain from expressing yourself till only a limit, and one day those characters also snap back. So, I've had my fair share of exploring but I am always open to new experiences.
