“Gaandi Baat season 2 is a thought-provoking story,” says the writer-actor Vinod Tharani

Vinod Tharani
MUMBAI: He has it all, be it propensity of writing a wonderful story or delivering the same narration in his baritone voice  flawlessly blended with expressions He is an acclaimed writer, who has penned down many successful TV shows like Savdhan India Mere Angne me Dhai kilo Prem. But hold on! He is also a veteran theatre actor, whose acting skill is yet to be optimally exploited.

Meet Vinod Tharani, who is enjoying the success of ALT Balaji’s web series Gaandi Baat season 2, for Tharani, it is a double whammy as he has written and acted in the series. “Over-the-top (OTT) viewing is the new flavor of the season. This format has created new opportunities for actors like me,” said Tharani, who has acted in highly acclaimed short film Puniyatithi, where his character of Hindu fundamentalist is highly appreciated.

Gandi baat season 2 is the relevant and thought-provoking story about a girl who is worried because she doesn’t have rounded and fuller breasts. The story is not only about titillating audience with  the skin show, but also through this series, the writer wants to address the real issue of a gir,l who lives in the society where big breasts are in demand.

“I am glad to get this opportunity”, and the series has done very well surpassing the record of last season,” informed Tharani, who has mastered the art of theatre. “When you do theatre, the actor in you can adapt any skin, any language any character.”

When we backtracked his journey his contemporaries are Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pankaj Tripathi and Deepak Dobriyal to name a few. “Somewhere I am experiencing identity crises between the writer in me and the actor in me. I know, I can ace them both. But in the bargain I haven’t made it to where I should have ideally made it,” said Tharani.  His acting potential is known to the world, he is the man who has given diction training and lessons in dialogue delivery to the actors like Deepika Padukone and Jacquline Fernendes. “I don’t want to be known as a world-class acting coach, but as a world-class actor.”

One can get a glimpse of his acting skills in Aishwarya Rai starrer Sarabjeet, where he played the role of Pakistani police inspector, but unfortunately, his role was chopped at the editing table. “I did my best but sometimes things are not in our control and I don’t blame anyone here,” he quipped. “There are days when I am extremely low and that I feel like headless chicken, but then again I buckle up because it’s a struggle that can lead to success.”

For future Tharani wants to do more meaningful roles and write thought-provoking stories. “It’s been years of many auditions and meetings, sometimes on the verge of getting into the skin of character but destiny is yet to shine on me! For me, the winner is the man who always stands by his conviction and craft!  I do,” signs off Tharani.
