Getting to play multiple avatars is a boon for an actor: Aakash Makhija

Aakash Makhija

He plays the sportive, jovial DJ Bunnu in Life OK’s Har Mard Ka Dard; and he also made his big screen debut this year with Mohit Suri’s blockbuster ‘Half Girlfriend’!

Amongst all the actors who are gaining momentum, he is one to be looked out for.

We’re talking about the buoyant and full of pep, Aakash Makhija!

He bagged the role of DJ Bunnu, Faisal Rashid’s younger brother in HMKD but destiny had more to offer!

Aakash has not just outdone his own character, but he is breaking boundaries by playing a plethora of comic characters on the show. We at TellyChakkar.com spoke to the actor about how he enjoys getting into peculiar avatars and delivering his best. Read on…

“When I was first casted for this show, I was only supposed to play DJ Bunnu who is an aspiring rapper who appears in any given situation and raps. Gradually, I started having dialogues. I was happy because I didn’t want to only stick to rapping, as an actor, I wanted my role to grow. It is a boon to play multiple roles,” he says.

On getting the first change in the character, Aakash states, “The first change in my role was when the writers of the show wrote a script where my character DJ Bunnu disguises himself as a doctor. I wasn’t expecting it, but I delivered my best as it was exciting. The channel liked my performance and appreciated my acting and since then I’ve played more than six to seven unique avatars in the show.”

How does Aakash go about executing these avatars? To this, the enthusiastic actor replies, “I improvise on the character myself. My voice modulation comes in handy. When I played the doctor, I pictured Salman Khan from Andaaz Apna Apna; when I played the woman police, I pictured the famous Gutthi played by Sunil Grover; with the village kaka and ghost, I pictured Sholay’s Thakur and did it the same way. So every avatar I play has a lot of observation behind it. I’m grateful to Parmeet sir who allows me to improvise on the roles. My co-stars are very supportive too. They are like a family to me.”

Does it get hectic for him to play so many roles at once? “It does get hectic. There has been a time where I have changed into three avatars in a day. The makeup and preparation takes a lot of time. I have to be on set before the shift starts only for the makeup. I don’t care about the TRP of the show, because I’m enjoying my parts in it. This show is letting me explore all my acting dimensions. And I’m looking forward to play more such roles. I have done comedy and negative shades; I would love to do something in romance too. I would love to play a super-hero. I haven’t done it before. Playing Batman would be awesome,” answers the actor.

Well, we have nothing but 100% appreciation for you Aakash! Keep up the great performances and we wish you luck for the future!

Har Mard Ka Dard airs on Life OK from Monday – Friday at 8 pm.
