Healthy Body and Mind Are Both Super Essential: Kapil Nirmal on Sports Shaping His Career

MUMBAI: Actor Kapil Nirmal, known for his roles in television shows like Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, Veera, and Na Aana Is Des Laado, and who recently made his debut in Nikkhil Advani’s Vedaa alongside John Abraham, Sharvari Wagh, and Abhishek Banerjee, says that playing sports has significantly shaped his personality. Speaking on the occasion of National Sports Day, celebrated on August 29th, he said, “Teamwork, competitiveness, physical fitness, sharpness—all these qualities get inculcated in your personality by playing sports.”

“Since school, I have been active in sports. Physical education was one of my subjects, which helped me stay connected with games like hockey and athletics. When you are on the field, you need to align with your team to achieve the desired goals,” he added.

Though he doesn’t have a favorite sport, he has immense respect for sports personalities and their achievements. He expressed particular admiration for the sports-themed film Chak De! India, saying, “I was a hockey player myself, so it was easier for me to connect with that film.”

Kapil believes that both sports and acting require focus and discipline. He noted that both fields are highly competitive and demand a certain level of fitness and a healthy mind. “As an actor, you need to be physically fit, flexible, agile, attentive, and possess situational awareness while performing scenes and stunts. A healthy body and mind are both super essential,” he said.

He also mentioned that people often opt for gymming instead of playing a sport because gyms are comparatively cheaper. However, he emphasized, “Keeping yourself physically active should be the motto.”

What is his message to fans? “People should not follow anyone else's regime. We all have different requirements and certainly different body types, so one should do what suits them. If you like gymming, do it; if you love walking, then go for it. It is important to stay active in whatever way you prefer,” Kapil concluded.
