MUMBAI: In an attempt to safeguard the security of the nation, the Ministry of Information and Technology, on Monday, banned 59 popular Chinese applications. The list included applications like TikTok, Shareit, UC Browser, Shein, Club Factory, Beauty Plus, Cam Scanner and WeChat, to name a few.
The ban on TikTok was not very welcoming, as everyone had a different opinion about it. But actor Amit Sarin supports the ban especially because of the recent clash between the Indian and Chinese soldiers at the Galwan Valley.
He said, “I support the government decision. Firstly, because of what happened at the Galwan valley, our soldiers are getting killed while saving our nation, so this is the least we can do. Secondly, I feel this app was doing us no good. Kids were making videos instead of focusing on their academics. So, this was required.”
“I just hope people, especially youngsters, take this tiktok ban positively. People even in the remotest corner of India became stars because of this app, and I understand that it’s really difficult for them to see it go, but they should understand this is for the safety and security of our nation. And no matter what, the country comes first,” he added.

Amit, who has been part of shows like “Kkusum”, “Kyunki…Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi”, says the content creators on the app should use their talent and explore other platforms as well.
“My advice to them will be to keep doing what you are doing, if you have followers, you will be followed on other platforms too. You can post videos on Instagram and Facebook and even YouTube. Talent sells, so take it as a challenge and explore,” Amit said.
A statement released by the government, on Monday night, said that the applications are engaged in activities “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of state and public order.” The apps have been pulled down from Google Play and Apple App Store as well.
