Mumbai is one city that changes your life!! And this is what Hema Singh, popularly known as Imarti Devi of Colors' Kairi has to say. This veteran theater artist and a professor at NSD (National School of Drama) had come down to Mumbai to work in Kairi simply to understand the functioning of the TV industry here. In fact according to her this was also an experiment in terms of transforming her theater techniques in front of the camera.
In a chat with Tellychakkar.com, Hema shared her experience being part of this buzzing industry.
“Initially when I joined the show I made it a point to write down certain points about television's working pattern. Simple things like long shot, mid-shot… switching on and off in between the shoots etc is not taught at NSD, and for me it was important to know it, and teach it to the students there,” said the artist.
Hema also spoke about the things that she used to be particular about once upon a time… Hema exclaimed, “I used to be very particular about my script as I always liked rehearsing. Later I lost the fear of not having the script in my hands. In fact I remember what my guru who was also my make-up dada once said, ‘sar pe baraf rakho aur muh mein shakkar.’ It actually helped me a lot.”
On the personal front, the actress who went on to win three awards for her role in the Colors show said, “The city has taught me so much. I left my daughter and husband back home and this wasn’t easy for me. I also did my daily chores without a daily help after my shoots every day. This was something that I had never done at my home in Delhi as I have maids there. But, it was meant to be a struggle and I did it pretty well.”
We also went ahead and asked her plans for TV and she promptly replied, “I will get back home and spend some time with my family. And if I get a role that inspires me I will get back to TV. But if I quit television at this point it will be with dignity.”
“Well the city has also made me talkative,” she laughed.
Truly, Imarti Devi is a role which will be talked about for many years to come…
