MUMBAI: In Apollena—Sapno Ki Unchi Udann, actor Hritik Yadav, who has starred in programs including Naagin 6, Palkon Ki Chhaon Mein 2, and Dhartiputra Nandini, says he first tried growing his hair as an experiment but ended up loving it. Even though he feels lighter now that his hair is shorter, he said he would like to grow it out again.
"I just wanted to change my look a little," he stated. I thought I'd let it grow and see where it went, so it began as a little experiment. But then I began to like it more with each inch. It became my vibe, a part of me. I was more attached to my hair than I ever imagined. To be honest, I had been wanting to modify my appearance for some time, but a role was the last straw. Duty calls and short hair were necessary for the character.
I felt as though a piece of me was falling when the first strand hit the ground. After nearly a year of having long hair, I feel lighter and more refreshed. Will I, however, keep it brief? Who knows? I might or might not grow it back. Keeping things surprising is the fun part. You know, there's a certain vibe in long hair. felt untamed, almost liberated," he continued.
He added that he learnt patience by growing his hair. He remarked, “It took me almost a year, and every stage was a struggle—awkward phases, messy mornings, the constant urge to chop it off. But it was worthwhile once it got to that ideal length.
Additionally, his friends and family had conflicting opinions on his long hair. "The responses were crazy. "Finally," said half of my friends and other actors, while the other half were stunned. But I get it. People sense a connection to a particular version of you when they see you in that manner for an extended period of time.
Hritik was quick to point out that, particularly in the fast-paced entertainment sector, sometimes change is necessary to stay relevant. "One appearance, one stage, or one version of yourself cannot be maintained indefinitely. You cease to grow the moment you become too comfy. Staying alive is the goal of change, not remaining relevant. I've come to the realisation that every time I make a change, whether it be to my hairstyle, how I approach a role, or simply my daily schedule, it causes internal turmoil. It compels me to adopt a new perspective on myself and to think differently. Additionally, the audience changes their perception of me when I do," he stated.
According to him, an actor should be open to new changes and new looks like water. You might be a long-haired rebel at times or a dapper gentleman at others. That's what makes it so beautiful. The best actors, in my opinion, are those who welcome this process and who become rather than merely act. If that means altering my appearance, my voice, my body, or even my thought process, then so be it. That's a luxury, not a sacrifice," he stated.
The sensation of the wind touching your scalp directly was something I had forgotten. Showers now take half as long. The best thing, though? Seeing a different, unfamiliar version of myself in the mirror. It's similar to starting over," Hritik concluded.
