It is wrong on society's part to blame a woman, if she wants to give expression to her physical desires: Sriti Jha

The beautiful and versatile Sriti Jha who has played characters (in Jyoti, Dil Se Di Dua... Saubhagyavati Bhava and Balika Vadhu) which have helped to push for the cause of women emancipation bats for women’s right in real life as well. “The need of the hour is for both the sexes to respect each other and march ahead. However here I wish to add that I am not classical feminist i.e. one who will beat men on the road. Rather I believe in humanism.” Talking about the state of women in 21st century India, Sriti who first came on the scene with Dhoom Machaao Dhoom says, “It is quite sad that even today a girl child is murdered in her mother’s womb. In the work front also we are judged more by the type of clothes we wear, rather than on our qualifications and achievements. If a girl just speaks loudly she is looked down upon. Here we need to appreciate the fact that society is changing today and woman of the day are successfully balancing both home and office. Some of our TV characters also showing this very change e.g in Balika Vadhu. Anandi becoming the village sarpanch and fighting for issues such as adult education will send out a very strong positive message out to society.” Sriti also feels that that it is wrong on society’s part to blame a woman, if she wants to give expression to her physical desires. “Who are we to judge one’s actions as long as he or she does not hurt anyone else in the process. And even there only the affected party should be allowed to cry foul. Coming to me personally, I have my own moral code by which I live. However I never expect others to follow what I feel is right. To each his own is my mantra.” In closing, Sriti was asked about the infamous Delhi gang rape case which still dominates national headline and she said,“ I actually don't know what to say. I feel so so angry. It’s absolutely shameful. Seriously what has humanity come to? What happened was an inhuman act. It is high time we break our silence against the violence against women and help the ones in need. We need to fight this as a society.”
