It's still a big question mark why the channel ignored Rakshak completely - Rajesh Shringarpure

The Life OK show Rakshak (Shakuntalam Productions) was touted to be a great move in terms of content on Indian TV. But that was not to happen as the channel failed to give the show its due in terms of promotion, as they feared facing legal wrath. The show which aired as a mini-series just went unnoticed due to lack of promotion. Recently, the show aired its last episode, and we get to hear that the actors involved in the show are very much disappointed with the outcome. In an effort to get to know what went wrong, we called up talented actor Rajesh Shringarpure who essayed the central role of the ‘Rakshak’… Says Rajesh, “The show was a very special one and could have become a pivotal prime time show but sadly it could not. As for me, I was really impressed by the character and the plot of the story. A common man has to suffer alone when a crime happens with him or his family, as they hardly get any support from the police or court on time.” Adding further he says, “The show was based on a Hollywood series and had everything in it to make it a big show. But sadly it could not manage to even catch people’s attention with zero promotion, and that too with only eight episodes to be shown.” On the channel’s decision to ignore the show, the actor states, “It is still a big question mark to us, and we do not know why the channel ignored it. This show was initially touted as a big thing for them and was initially approved too, but suddenly after we had shot some episodes they changed their mind. We had shot for episodes all over the city and had also shot some very interesting promotional videos and hoardings which were to be put all over the city, but all got wasted out.” “In my opinion, may be the subject was too dark and the impact it could have had might have given out a wrong idea about a common man taking up law in his own hands and punishing the culprits,” he adds. What if the show plans to make a comeback, will he take it up? “Of course, I am game for the show anytime. The crime rates in our country are raising a lot; people need to understand that it’s important to fast-track cases which need speedy justice. I completely stand with this show and I sort of feel that it’s a pat on my back to be a part of this project,” he shares. Right now as he shoots for a Marathi film, Rajesh says he is waiting for some lucrative offers on TV and Bollywood to come his way.
