The key to successful impersonation lies in observation. Unless you don’t observe how will you impersonate someone. But there are always exceptions. Jyoti Gauba who plays Yashoda in Rajan Shahi’s Swarg is perhaps the first lady to spoof Ekta Kapoor even though she’s hardly seen much footage of the soap queen.
We are talking about Jyoti playing a character called Anekta in Sunondro Mitra’s film Idiot Box. As the names suggests, it’s a satire on TV stars.

“Honestly speaking, my first reaction on being asked to play this role was that of complete surprise. That’s because I simply don’t resemble her at all. Besides, I’ve seldom seen her. In fact, I haven’t even seen any of her visuals to get into the character. I was merely given a brief and that’s how I got knack of it,” said Jyoti.
With that being the case, are you confident that you’ve succeeded in your attempt? “My director and co-actors were all pleased with my performance. I personally never thought I could be doing such a role. I’ve seldom seen Ekta’s footage except for her appearance at an award function,” she replied.
So, what kind of Ekta, rather Anekta will we see? “I’m playing a TV producer. Actor Sushant Singh approaches me for role and while conversing I ask him to add an extra alphabet to his name. I’ve given my best shot. Hope the audience likes it,” Jyoti concludes.
Here’s hoping that the real Ekta Kapoor gives a thumbs up to her imposter.
