KJo rules. Brand Karan Johar is scoring on television and how. Apart from hosting his show, and judging reality talent hunts, his films appear to be doing well on TV too. Take Student of the Year which premiered on Sony Entertainment Television on 26 January generated a television rating of 4.2, much higher than Ek Tha Tiger and the KBC finale which notched up 3 TVRs. In fact, those ratings are the highest scored by a TV film in the quarter.

KJo says the TV game is putting additional pressure on film makers. Says he: “Earlier, filmmakers were not concerned about what happened to films on TV, but now we pray for box-office success and high TRPs. It’s double the pressure. Today, the premiere of a film on TV is a big deal. Movies get audiences when the entertainment quotient is high.”
Great quote Karan, but what’s your view on why SOTY worked so well on TV with newcomers in the star cast as compared to a Sallu starrer and the Big B hosted Kaun Banega Crorepati finale? “SOTY is a breezy watch with hit music,” is KJo’s pat reply. “It aired at a non-prime time slot so kids could watch it, which made me realise that the teenagers love the three stars in the film.”
Well said Karan! While old is gold (AB’s KBC and Tiger Salman Khan), the old order changeth and old also giveth way to the new!
