MUMBAI: Pravina Deshpande, who has acted in films such as Jalebi and Ready, television shows like Ghar Ek Mandir, Kumkum, Karam Apnaa Apnaa, and Kulfi Kumar Bajewala, and online series, is going through a difficult period personally. The actress has been battling the blood disease multiple myeloma since 2019.

Pravina revealed, “It began with minor skin eruptions and gradually spread. I was eventually diagnosed with multiple myeloma in October 2019. Despite the diagnosis, the prognosis was positive, offering the hope of leading a normal life after the treatment. Since I had no major complaints other than declining stamina, I continued working.”
After experiencing severe back pain in 2022, Pravina’s treatment began. She said, “While performing in a play, I suffered severe back pain, indicating it was time to start treatment. I completed shooting a web series in September and was admitted for chemotherapy the same month, followed by a bone marrow transplant.”
She further added, “During my 17 days in isolation for the transplant, my husband (Aniruddha Deshpande), two sons, daughter-in-law, and close relatives never let me feel alone. They took turns sitting in the guest room, offering moral support through video calls. Their presence gave me the strength to believe in my recovery. My niece even cut her long hair, and my nephew went bald in my solidarity. Having a strong support system is crucial in such times.”
After a 8 month break, Pravina returned to work. She said, “Recently, I worked on two short films and finished shooting for my small part as Manoj Bajpayee’s mother in The Family Man 3, wearing a wig. Work has given me strength, peace, and something to look forward to. My unfinished goals have been my core motivation in recovery. I look forward to achieving complete remission now and hopefully taking up interesting projects.”
