Last seen in Smriti’s Viruddh Pariva is the lead actress in Sony’s new cop show, Salaam Zindgi. After playing a cameo and an important character in a few shows, the bubbly actress is all ready with her new avatar in a khakhi uniform. She talks to tellychakkar on her role, issues close to her heart and other things. Salaam Zindgi… The show salutes the spirit of today’s women. It focuses on the women who are career- oriented and at the same time know how to balance work and home. Salaam Zindgi is the tale of Manya who realises her dream and goes out to fulfill the same. It showcases the emotional journey of a young girl who becomes a resilient police inspector. Manya is… A sweet and simple girl from a middle- class family who values tradition. She does everything with passion and her biggest passion is dancing. Manya’s life revolves around her dreams of being a world-renowned danseuse. But life has something else written for her and now she has to make up her mind whether to enter a man’s domain. Reason for taking up this show… I don’t like to repeat the same character in all my shows. This story serves something unusual and different from the present shows that are currently on air. I liked the concept and character which portrays the stronger and ambitious side of a woman. Another reason of taking this show is my dad. He is an air force officer and always dreamed of seeing me in a uniform. When he came to know that I’m playing a cop in the show he was very happy. “Finally I’ll be able to see you in uniform,” he said. This makes me proud and happy too. Your preparations for playing a cop…. When you do a daily soap there is no time for preparations. For the role of Manya as a cop I was briefed by the director. But from my side, I keep observing cops whenever I go out. I try and study their body language and their style of work. Your other serials… I’m also doing Deepti Bhatnagar’s Shaadi Street. I play a sister to the main lead in the show. Again this character is a spoilt brat who hates the lifestyle in a mohalla. She belongs to that mohalla but dreams of a rich man who will marry her and take her away. The look is very different with curly hair and stylish clothes. We have completed 28 episodes of Shaadi Street but have no idea when it will go on air. It’s going to be a short and sweet story and I’m eagerly looking forward to it.
