MUMBAI: Television star Mahhi Vij, who has long held a special place in the hearts of audiences, recently shared a deeply personal chapter from her life—one marked by both overwhelming joy and heart-breaking loss.
Known for her memorable performances in Laagi Tujhse Lagan and Balika Vadhu, as well as winning Nach Baliye Season 5 alongside her husband Jay Bhanushali, Mahhi has always been admired for her grace, talent, and candour.

In a recent interview, the actress revealed that she was once pregnant with twins through IVF but tragically lost one of the babies early in the pregnancy. Describing the emotional turmoil she went through, Mahhi explained, “I had twins as two eggs were implanted during the IVF procedure, both in separate sacs. Tara’s sac was progressing well, and even the other was developing with stable water levels—everything seemed fine. But unfortunately, one baby wasn’t growing.”
She recounted how her doctor warned her of the potential danger: “The doctor said, ‘Just pray it passes on its own, because sometimes the weaker twin can pose a risk to the healthy one as well.’”
Mahhi then described the terrifying moment she discovered blood in the bathroom. “I panicked and called my doctor immediately. I was scared and confused—I had just received the happiness of being pregnant, and now I was seeing blood. I rushed to the clinic, and the doctor told me it was actually a blessing in disguise, as the loss could have otherwise endangered the other twin.”
Despite the heart-wrenching loss, Mahhi focused on staying positive and praying for the well-being of the surviving baby, now her daughter Tara.
Her openness about such a sensitive and rarely spoken-about experience is a powerful reminder of the emotional complexities many women face in their motherhood journeys.
