Mansoor Dar of Doordarshan’s show Sukanya Hamari Betiyaan is a talented guy. He is getting noticed as the main negative lead in this PMI’s (production house) soap which is about a rich spoilt brat who kills his own college principle. The spoilt brat is being played by Mansoor. "Seema Kapoor plays my industrialist mother who is a virtual law unto herself in the city where the show is set. My character Abhishek Thapar is sent to jail for the above crime but again money and power get me out. This afternoon band show basically deals with my clash with the leading lady Meenakshi Arya, who plays the title role of Sukanya (college principle was a father figure to her). I want to get her out of my way while she wants me to atone for my sins," shares Mansoor, whose father is an important officer in Kashmir (executive magistrate- Naib Tehilsdar). Furthermore, in the show there is no love angle between Mansoor and the lead girl. "The matter gets personal for her father was a key witness in my murder case and hence we get him externed (tadi paar)," he further goes on to share. So is his character based on a real person? "I don’t know for the producers have not given me any reference points. So I am playing it purely like a fictional character." Moving on, Sukanya is not Mansoor's first brush with TV. Prior to this, he has taken part in UTV Bindaas’ Superstud. "I have also done a small but important cameo in Rajan Shahi’s Yeh Ristha Kya Kehlata Hai (Star Plus). My entry in the TV world is quite unique. I am actually an IT guy (diploma in computer hardware and networking) from Srinagar, but my father wanted me to try my hands in acting . He took out time from his busy schedule and came down with me to Mumbai to help me get settled. Seeing my father’s intense desire, I also decided to take a full dive in the entertainment industry and very soon began to love the trade," says the handsome hunk. He also did a full research before taking the plunge and even took acting lessons. So do people back home watch his show? "Yes, there is a great demand for my show. In fact, our village headman requested the local electricity official to at least make sure we have power from 2.30 to 3pm when the show is on air (there’s a lot of load shedding in that area). Also since cable operators in Kashmir don't offer DD, our villagers use the TV antenna to watch my show." Well, Mansoor, hope your career as an actor grows in leaps and bounds. All the best!!!
