Movies beckon for Abhijeet Sawant

The success of Himesh Reshammiya as an actor has raised the hopes of other singers that they too might be able to don the hero's hat. Taking a cue from Himesh is former Indian Idol Abhijeet Sawant. The buzz goes that the singer has already signed for a film. When asked about it Abhijeet replies, "This is news to me. However, I wouldn't mind trying my hand at acting. If any good role comes my way, I wouldn't hesitate in taking it up." While there may be offers for him, is Abhijeet comfortable at acting? He says, "I'm often surprised when I get acting offers. The first thing I tell them is that I can't act at all. However, they insist that I can learn it. So, I intend to enroll myself into an acting school." Acting may not quite be his cup of tea but Abhijeet is happy with the change in scenario. "Singers have never got their due in this industry. Often it's the hero who hogs all the limelight. Things are slowly changing now. After the success of Himesh Reshammiya, people are willing to cast singers as actors." 2007 is proving fruitful for Abhijeet, with his second album 'Junoon' proving to be a huge hit. So, this indeed is the right time for him to explore new avenues.
