Colors’ Mrs Pammi Pyarelal (Playtime Creations) has been a head turner for its unique storyline and dialogues. Hence, we at Tellychakkar.com got in touch with the show’s dialogue writer Sharad Tripathi to understand what goes into writing dialogues for a show like Pammi. “Pammi is a switchover from the usual storylines. Hence, I am not doing what I did in Kairi or for that matter any other show. There is lot of madness in the way these characters communicate and you will sense that in their dialogues,” avers the writer. “Since, I haven’t done comedy before, I got a lot of help from screenplay writer Yunus Sajawal and our director Ashish Khurana. While Yunus ji is the ‘King of Comedy’ having written comic films all this while like Golmaal and Bol Bachchan that went on to become blockbusters. Ashish ji is a big name in SAB TV, having directed a lot of comedy shows,” Sharad adds. Talking about the research work that he had to undertake to write dialogues in this particular series, Sharad observes, “I had to watch a lot of old comedy movies to get the flair and the flavour of the genre. And then I tried connecting these punch lines with today’s time. For example in the olden movies when people would say tumhara muh ghutno tak kyu gira hai, it would mean why are you sad. But if I have to use this line today, I would say tumhara muh rupaye ke bhav ki tarah kyu gira hai. The audience will have an instant connect with this as that’s the situation we face currently. As a writer, one must have an update on what’s going around us.” “There is this character named Gayatri being played by Vindhya Tiwari who just talks in Urdu as she had stayed in Lucknow for a few years with her parents. Since, she speaks in Urdu I had to upgrade my Urdu speaking skills. Hence, I started reading books written by Urdu writers. So, there are these small home works that one has to constantly keep on doing.” The show also has a lot of film names and filmy dialogues. “It’s more of a spoofy comedy. Hence, the audiences will witness a lot of spoofs on films. Like the first dialogue of the show started with aaj khush toh bahot hoge tum an iconic dialogue from the film Deewar,” Sharad maintains. Furthermore, he tells us that Mrs Pammi Pyarelal is here to change the way one looks at television. “I can proudly say that here is a hatke show. It’s just that if the audiences watch this show, it will be a motivational factor for a lot of other makers who would want to experiment too. But, if it does not work, TV might get back to the usual saas bahu drama.” Interestingly, Sharad is also writing dialogues for Zee TV’s Fear Files. We wish you good luck… Sharad!!!
